The Coming Revolution: The Merging of Computational Neural Science and Semiconductor Engineering

چکیده
INTRODUCTION There is a large class of problems that are at best poorly solved. These problems involve the transformation of data across the boundary between the real world and the digital world. And they occur whenever a computer is sampling and/or acting on real world data. Examples of these “boundary transformation” problems include the computer recognition of human speech, computer vision, textual and image content recognition, robot control, Optical Character Recognition (OCR), Automatic Target Recognition, etc. These are difficult problems to solve on a computer, since they require the computer to find complex structures and relationships in massive quantities of low precision, ambiguous, noisy data. “Boundary transformations” are also very important. Our inability to adequately solve these problems constitutes a significant barrier to computer usage,

Neural Monitoring With CMOS Image Sensors
Implantable image sensors have several biomedical applications due to their miniature size, light weight, and low power consumption achieved through sub-micron standard CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) technologies. The main applications are in specific cell labeling, neural activity detection, and biomedical imaging. In this paper the recent research studies on implantable CMOS i...
متن کاملDesign of an Adaptive-Neural Network Attitude Controller of a Satellite using Reaction Wheels
In this paper, an adaptive attitude control algorithm is developed based on neural network for a satellite using four reaction wheels in a tetrahedron configuration. Then, an attitude control based on feedback linearization control is designed and uncertainties in the moment of inertia matrix and disturbances torque have been considered. In order to eliminate the effect of these uncertainties, ...
متن کاملPotential impact of global warming on river runoff coming to Jor reservoir, Malaysia by integration of LARS-WG with artificial neural networks
Background: Changes in temperature and precipitation pattern seriously affect the amount of river runoff coming into Dam Lake. These changes could influence the operating conditions of reservoir systems such as Jor hydropower reservoir system (Malaysia) with the total capacity of 150 MW. So, it is necessary to analyze the effect of changes in weather parameters on the river runoff and consequen...
متن کاملExperimental and finite-element free vibration analysis and artificial neural network based on multi-crack diagnosis of non-uniform cross-section beam
Crack identification is a very important issue in mechanical systems, because it is a damage that if develops may cause catastrophic failure. In the first part of this research, modal analysis of a multi-cracked variable cross-section beam is done using finite element method. Then, the obtained results are validated usingthe results of experimental modal analysis tests. In the next part, a nove...
متن کاملComputational Neurobiology Meets Semiconductor Engineering
Many believe that the most important result to come out of the last ten years of neural network research is the significant change in perspective in the neuroscience community towards a theory of computational neurobiology and functional neuromodels. Arriving on a fast moving train from the other direction is semiconductor technology, one of the greatest technology success stories of all time –...
